The Muslim institute is a premier multidisciplinary organization of Kolkata and excels in myriad of activities in the continuum of Social, Cultural, Educational and Sports. On 26th March, 2017 the Education Section of the Muslim Institute had organized an Inter School Quiz and Debate Competition. The students of St. Michael’s Academy were proud to be a part of such a prestigious event.
The motion of the debate was “School students should not access Social Networking Sites.” From our school, the participants for English debate were Anya Zahid Khan of class X and Shaistha Shakeel of class IX while, Shreestha Prasad of class VIII and Ranjika Chowdhury of class VI were competing for the same motion in Bengali. The judge’s panel for the English debate was Mr. H.Zaman, Secretary, St. Michael’s Academy, Mr. M. Bannerjee, Head Master, Crescent school and Mrs. Sharon Ahmed from St. Thomas’s Day school. Our participants for quiz from Group A (classes VI-VII) were Abhijeet Ojha, Shaabaaz Shakeel and Tayyaba Rashid, while Group B (IX & X) consisted of Rupam Thakur, Toushiba Noor Shaba and Mohammed Ali Ansari. The preliminary round for quiz started around 11:30a.m, followed by the English and Bengali debates. Post lunch the final rounds for quiz was held; group A of St. Michael’s Academy was selected to vie against 7 other schools.
Finally, the long day came to an end with declaration of the results of all the events. The first place for debate went to the speaker from Saifee Golden Jubilee English Public School, while Anya Zahid Khan of St. Michael’s Academy came second and the third place was secured by the speaker of Crescent School. The winner of the quiz competition was St Augustine Day School. The prizes were given away by Mr. Shaikh Shamsher Alam, General Secretary of The Muslin Institute.
The event showcased a platform for the students to be better orators in future.
